The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) is proud to launch the NACC Safety Blog Series — a new subset of NACC’s blogs dedicated to advancing aviation safety through collaboration and insight.

Safety has always been, and will remain, the top priority for Canada’s major passenger airlines.  As the voice of the country’s largest carriers, NACC and its members are committed to promoting a robust safety culture rooted in continuous improvement, operational excellence, and proactive engagement.

Through this blog, we aim to showcase the important work being done across our member airlines and through our many committees — including but not limited to Safety, Flight Operations, Flight Technical, Cabin Safety, Dangerous Goods and Occupational Health and Safety.  These groups play a pivotal role in driving forward safety-related initiatives that span operational procedures, regulatory compliance, in-flight and ground safety, environmental and accessibility considerations, and more.  This platform will also spotlight our ongoing collaboration with key safety partners — including regulators, technical experts, and industry stakeholders — demonstrating how joint efforts deliver meaningful outcomes.  From policy development to risk mitigation, these partnerships are essential to Canada’s continued leadership in global aviation safety.

Safety Blog 1 – The NACC Safety Committee

Ensuring the highest standards of aviation safety requires unwavering commitment, collaboration, and continuous improvement.  The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC) plays a vital role in fostering this safety-first culture among Canada’s largest passenger airlines.  Through its Safety Committee, NACC brings together industry leaders and experts to ensure our member airlines are at the leading edge of safety initiatives and advancements.

What is the NACC Safety Committee?

The NACC Safety committee serves as a collaborative bridge between its member airlines, government bodies, and key industry stakeholders.  Led by a Chair from its membership, the committee focuses on addressing critical safety concerns and providing expert recommendations to ensure safety remains a top priority.  It monitors legislation and regulations, both domestic and international, that may impact airline safety and advises on strategies to manage safety-related policies, procedures and processes.  Additionally, the committee identifies potential risks and emerging trends that could lead to unsafe conditions while fostering a unified safety approach that prioritizes safety above competition.

Roles, Responsibilities and Engagement

Beyond its advisory role, the Safety Committee actively engages with organizations such as Transport Canada (TC), the Transportation Safety Board (TSB), International Air Transport Association (IATA), and others to promote joint safety initiatives.  Members also participate in forums and assume leadership roles, advancing collaborative safety priorities between government and industry.  This dynamic cooperation ensures that the highest safety standards are upheld, enhancing a strong safety culture within the Canadian aviation community.

In future blogs we will touch on the many issues being addressed by our Committee and airlines overall – more to come!
