NACC expresses disappointment at Supreme Court decision

Ottawa, ON, October 4, 2024 – Jeff Morrison, President and CEO of the National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC), which represents Canada’s largest air carriers (Air Canada, Air Transat, Jazz Aviation LP and WestJet), issued the following statement regarding today’s decision by the Supreme Court of Canada:
“We are disappointed that the Supreme Court of Canada today ruled that the Air Passenger Protection Regulations (APPR) do not contravene the Montreal Convention. Regardless of the outcome, Canada’s airlines will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders and government to implement practical, positive solutions to keep improving the overall air travel system, as minimizing travel disruptions is the best means to protect the interests of passengers.
“The National Airlines Council of Canada will continue to advocate for strengthening the efficiencies of the air travel system by investing in airport and air transport system infrastructure, and leveraging digital technologies and innovations. The federal government has a critical role to play in achieving these objectives.
