Ottawa, ON, November 13, 2024 – The National Airlines Council of Canada (NACC), representing Canada’s largest air carriers (Air Canada, Air Transat, Jazz Aviation LP and WestJet), today announced that Andrew Gibbons, Vice President, External Affairs at WestJet, has been appointed Chair of the NACC Board of Directors at NACC’s 2024 Annual General Meeting. 

Mr. Gibbons is one of Canada’s most recognized and known aviation and tourism industry leaders. 

“Leading WestJet’s advocacy for over a decade and through its most difficult challenges, I look forward to building bridges throughout the entire aviation and tourism ecosystem and ensuring the voice of Canada’s airlines meets the critical period we are in,” said Mr. Gibbons.

As the outgoing Chair of the Board of Directors over the past year, NACC also extends its thanks to Arielle Meloul-Wechsler, Executive Vice-President, Chief Human Resources Officer and Public Affairs, Air Canada, for the leadership she brought to the organization over the course of the last three years.

In other changes, NACC also welcomed the appointment of Howard Liebman, Vice President, Government Relations, Air Transat, as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors.

Mr. Liebman brings over two decades of government and aviation experience to this new role.

“Driving progress that supports the growth and profound contributions of the aviation sector to the Canadian economy is of critical importance,” said Liebman.  “Our goal is to continue to advance industry standards, promote policies that enhance competitiveness, and ensure a bright future for the aviation ecosystem, its workers and for travelers.”
